counterfeit hypocrite holy sh!t

I'm in a dark spot at the moment.

I'm trying to reinstate my 'just get up and do something every day for 30 minutes' plan which was so successful about a year ago but it is failing now. The last few weeks of mornings have been just perfect, with the window open and the cool breeze coming in under my warm covers, and just a peek of sunrise. Enjoying those few extra minutes snuggled up with the hubby in the morning doesn't hurt either. But it's not great for my motivation.

I had to use my 10 minute rule on a run the other day. ("If you're feeling bad, just go out for 10 minutes. If you still feel bad after 10 minutes, you have permission to turn around and go home"). I think I still gave myself credit for 20 minutes that day, so there's that at least.

I've been struggling with Morton's neuroma since last fall. Ragnar was the last time I remember not having any foot pain while running or cycling (or any time, really.). I've replaced all my running and work shoes with Altra-style or at least those that can fit my new rigid insoles (usually need to go up a size. From 11 to 12 in normal shoes? Right.). I still have a pair of new BONT cycling shoes with boa laces that I treated myself to but haven't actually used yet. I probably should. The shoes/insoles seem to be helping at least. I've had 2 cortisone shots so far, and hopefully there's no surgery for this in my future. It would involve resecting all of the ligaments between the 3rd and 4th toes and I just can't see that being successful for future running, though there is anecdotal evidence that it's beneficial.

location of no good, very bad, very angry nerve

I can't help but think this whole problem is rooted in my prior foot surgery, and this is just the start of a downhill slippery slope into the land of arthritis and permanent orthotic old lady shoes.

I've also gained ~20 lbs. I really don't want to get to the point where I have to size up all my clothes too.

I'm excited that the county pool near work will have their 50m outdoor lanes open in a few weeks. I haven't been excited about swimming in a really long time (like over a year). I hope it stays that way until the pool actually opens. I'm hoping swimming as a habit again will do a lot for my core strength and the flat tire that seems to be hanging out around my midsection lately.

I also recently got some mental health help for anxiety and related issues. I know the weight gain can be a side effect for some of those medications, but why can't I have both?!

That process helped me step out of my comfort zone and pursue a temporary change in duties, from December - March. I miss that job a lot. I miss being trusted (and trusting myself) with my expertise and opinions. I miss feeling like I was learning again. And I miss being confident in my communications with others. I've not felt that good about public speaking (and speaking on the phone) in a really long time. Nothing against the current group, but wow I am in a rut here. I hope to get back to that other spot in the near future.

In better news, I am thrilled to finally be going to the Andrews AFB Air Show tomorrow, after being in the DC area for almost 14 years now (!!!) and never seeming to get it together enough to go. Hooray!

Thunderbirds! (and Blue Angels too)

And last week the sisters and I went to see Missio at 9:30 Club, and we splurged on VIP tickets to meet them beforehand. It was great to spend a evening with just us girls, and it was refreshing to meet these guys who are just genuinely friendly and interested in their craft and their fans. Plus we were totally matchy-matchy with our black and rose gold glam :)

Is anyone even writing blog posts anymore? I'm too old for Insta stories and Snapchat and whatnot.

earworm:  Missio - Everybody Gets High
But also, all of Billie Eilish's album. Am I too old for that too? I can jam to 'bad guy' all day. (duh)
